I have no idea what this is about, but I am going to find out.

Hi Patti,

This is an annual event at Coney Island. This year's parade was the 25th! It's sort of NYC's answer to Mardi Gras or Carnival.

As some folks may have heard, there are plans to rebuild a lot of Coney Island's Astroland. It seems like they will end up with something akin to either Six Flags or Las Vegas. It's a shame. They'll lose a lot of the heart and soul of Coney Island. On the positive side, because it's a landmark, they can't tear down the Cyclone roller coaster.

We did get there a few years ago and saw the ballpark and walked the boardwalk to the Russian area and had a hotdog. (Coney hotdogs in Detroit have chili on them!) But this is just so much fun. Hate to see everything vanillaed.
