Sarah Weinman Interview

Over on Confessions of an Idiosyncratic Mind, Sarah has an entry on a great online interview she did for the Kacey Kowers Show.

Check out both Sarah's entry and the link to Kasey's site. The interview has a lot of great information about how Sarah got started in blogging, her fiction and non-fiction writing, and her insights into the world of books.

Vote of Confidence

Thanks Mary, for joining our rapidly sinking ship ;-)

We'll get our respective columns straightened out soon, and will be adding more features as soon as the Movable Type books you ordered for us arrive...

You have FTP space here too, ya know - so if you upload photos into your space, we can work on your gallery presentations.

I've been using Adobe Photoshop Elements to create my galleries, but there are several options now to choose from including Google's free Picasa and others.

You can check out my end results from Adobe's software here.

Sorry these solutions are PC only... what do you use on the Mac - iPhoto?

New location!

Well, as you can see from Steven's message below, I've moved my site to this great new location. We are still working on getting the format the way we want it and importing the old files and photos. I'm hoping we have all that straightened out soon.

Thanks for visiting.

Joseph Kanon

Sarah and I went to Joseph Kanon's signing tonight. Wish I could have made it to Jim Fusilli's as well but they were 80 blocks apart and at the same time.

Caleb Carr

Went to Caleb Carr's signing tonight. I hadn't heard him speak before and was very impressed. Picked up a copy of the Italian Secretary. I'll have to dig out my copy of The Alienist. I must be one of the few people who haven't read it.

My latest Sunday walk

Morningside Heights

On Mother's Day I wandered through my neighborhood, discovering a number of new spots. I just happened upon a street fair for kids up near Columbia. The day started out very overcast but by the end of my walk it was sunny and quite nice.

Jim Born's Signing at Partners and Crime

Well, I made it to the signing. Unfortunately neither of my camera batteries did. I can't remember the last time I did something that stupid. Luckily my friend Kathy Kiley had her camera and she let me borrow it. I'm not that familiar with how her camera works, so the results were good but not great. Check them out here. P5040003

Recent Signings

Since the next signing I'm going to isn't until tomorrow, I figured that I'd post a few highlights from recent signings. Here are some pictures from Ken Bruen, Jerrilyn Farmer, and Victor Gishler's signings at Black Orchid during the past two months.

Book meme

Okay, I won't be taking any pictures today so I figured I'd fill in the meme that is making the rounds. It seemed appropriate to take this on from Laura Lippman after Old Hag said he wouldn't pass it on to her because of how good she looked in the picture I took at the Edgars. (She did look fantastic)

You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451. Which book do you want to be?
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. He mentions so many other books that it would almost be like being them all.

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
Far too many to mention ;-)

The last book you bought was...?
The last book I actually paid for myself was The Magdalen Martyrs by Ken Bruen.
But I won Victor Gishler's Suicide Squeeze from Sarah Weinman's website. Got that one signed when he was in town in early April.

The last book you read was...?
Money to Burn by Katy Munger

What are you currently reading?
I've got a couple of them going at the moment:
The Serpent on the Crown by Elizabeth Peters
Murder on Gramercy Park by Victoria Thompson

Five books you would take to a desert island...
Complete works of Shakespeare
Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything
Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy
Complete Harry Potter series - assuming someone actually published it and you could lift a book that big
and of course a book about surviving on desert islands.

Okay, enough of this writing stuff. I need to get back to picture taking.

-------------

P.S. Just thought of another book to bring along - To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. Guess I won't be taking that book on surviving on desert islands after all.

Harlem

As some of you may know, today I was supposed to go to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Well, I was crazy to expect to get myself out of bed and get ready in time to make it to Brooklyn by 10AM, especially on a Sunday.

So instead I participated in the Harlem Open Artist Studio Tour (http://www.hoast.org/). It was a glorious day to wander around Harlem. I wasn't able to get many pictures inside the studios. But I did take some of the homes and buildings along the way. Check out my Harlem photo album for more.
